Grief Services Program Director

Shawn O’Connell, LPCC, will be serving as the Grief Services Program Director. He has earned a Master’s of Arts in Counseling and a Master’s of Education both from Wayland Baptist University.

With over 26 years of leadership experience, Shawn entered his second career in the behavioral health field in 2014 as a licensed counselor. Dedicating 20 years with the Albuquerque Police Department (APD), his law enforcement experience as a crisis intervention officer and supervisor, crisis negotiator, peer support, and critical stress debrief team member, helped pave the way for this natural transition. Shawn has served as a Clinical Services Supervisor and Licensed Counselor for the last 5 years with Presbyterian Medical Services, a Rio Rancho community health clinic.

Originally from Indiana, Shawn was recruited by APD in 1992 and moved to Albuquerque, where he met his wife, Audrey. They have been happily married for 24 years and have two beautiful daughters, Faith (23) and Taylor (21). Faith and Taylor are attending college at the University of New Mexico and Grand Canyon University in Phoenix, respectively. Shawn and Audrey like to spend their days off working in the yard or hiking in the mountains, but always with family and friends.
